The "Operating System" is software shipped pre-installed into every DSi which allows the launching of games from an officially Nintendo certified game card, launching of Nintendo Certified "channels" and DSiWare titles. It run a similar GUI like the Wii.<br />
<br />
The DSi runs in certain permission modes similar to the Wii where running backwards compatibility games turns off the extra hardware and clocks down the CPU.<br />
